Snapshots of design approach and skills.
CONSUMER RESEARCH+INSIGHT: (Left) Focus groups and athlete insight gathering for the Nike Hypervenom III and Phantom VNM. (Top right) Athlete experience to inspire moonshot thinking about skateboarding. (Bottom right) Tour of English craft for Nike SB Hybred Boot. (Not shown) Internet research including current market, relevant social media, and product reviews.
NARRATIVE+MANTRA: (Left) Hypothetical question establishing Nike Storm-Fit ADV direction; what would be the best bag if Tokyo was in the mountains of Hokkaido? (Right) Mantra for backcountry goggle project.
MOOD + AI + INSPIRATION: (Left) V.Carbon eyewear mood board reflecting the speed, precision, and materiality of the project. (Right) Punk Jock eyewear inspiration elevating and celebrating the magic that happens when sport, art, and rebellious energy collide.
IDEATION: Nike Hypervenom III thumbnail drawings targeting specific athlete performance insight.
ITERATION+AI+CURATION: Hoverbike concept exploration using iterative hand-sketching and AI. Refining direction -> 600 (not shown) -> 60 -> 5.
SKETCHING: (Left) Automotive concept sketches. (Right) Nike Phantom VNM final direction sketches.
TECHNICAL DRAWING: Nike Mercurial Finale IC midsole and outsole tech pack and (right) confirmed production midsole + outsole.
3D MODELING + GENERATIVE DESIGN: Experienced in many forms of 3D modeling including parametric, Class-A NURBS surfaces, Sub-D, polygonal, generative, and AI modeling. (Top) Built 3D model used for production mold of the Nike Strobe (sensory sport training) goggles. (Bottom) Rendering of generative modeled printable one-piece skateboard. (Not shown) 3D printing is an integral part of design process.
HAND MAKING: (Left) Handmade original Nike SB Hybred Boot prototype utilizing pattern engineering, laser cutting, sewing, HF welding, pressing, strobel stitching, and sole laying. (Right) Handmade clear polycarbonate skateboard that required 3 days in the oven slowly dehydrate and prevent bubble formation on bending. Used for high speed video validation of barefoot-like flex of SB Skate Free outsole.
TESTING + DATA GATHER: (Left) First of its kind, robotic kicking machine testing the Nike Phantom VNM for power, accuracy, and consistency. (Top right) Olympic gold medalist swimmer testing the Nike Swift Swim Strapless Goggle. (Bottom right) Hydrodynamic testing of Nike Swift Swim goggles and cap in a specially designed tow tank at the University of British Columbia. (Not shown) Wear-testing can either be the final confirmation step or cycle back to the beginning.
COLOR + MATERIALS + GRAPHICS: Finishing often has the single greatest impact on consumer decision making. (Left) Nike Air Backpack and Hypervenom III followed and led seasonal color strategies respectively. (Middle) SB Hybred Boot and Mercurial Air Zoom Ultra exemplify performance and craft material application. (Right) Hybred Boot innersole and woven label graphic inspired by by plant life of desert boot Nile River Delta origins.
